Choosing a Web Host
Of the hundreds of web hosts, how do you determine what is the best plan for you.
Finding a web hosting plan does not have to be a hard process. It's understanding what to look for that is the key to finding a host that is a good fit for your needs. Using our Web Host Search you will easily be able to searcg hosts and easily and quickly compare plans. First though, you need to know a few things to narrow you search.
Ask yourself these questions, "What is the main purpose of this site?" Is this a basic informational site providing just information about a product or service with little to no user input or interaction? Or is it a database driven dynamic web site that provides content to the user based upon their actions or inputs? Do I have a lot of large videos or images that my users will be viewing or downloading straight to their computers?
If you are not sure right now what your site will offer or how interactive it will be, it is suggested that you look for a General All Purpose Web Host that can offer enough bandwidth, file space, and features that you should be able to do just about anything with them.
Some people would suggest using a budget hosting plan and just upgrading to a better plan or different host when you site requires it. Not bad advice, except there can be issues when tranferring a site leading to a lot of extra work and editing of pages. Secondly, some budget hosts are so limited in features that you are severely constrained to what you can do with your site. However, if you know for certain that your site will be for instance a product info site, displaying info, some pictures, maybe a small video and user input not much more involved than a contact form, then a budget host will be the best for you.
If you are an established webmaster, then you probably already now what your site requires and the only decision you may need to make is whether to upgrade to a high traffic web hosting plan or even step up to a Virtual or Dedicated server.
Should you upgrade? Ask these questions:
- Is my site working fast enough that my users are not being discouraged from using the site?
If so, look for a high traffic hosting plan on a shared server. That will be the most economical. - Is my site slowing down considerably making the site unusable?
If so, you site is attracting so many users or has a lot of high resource tasks that the server is unable to keep up. Consider upgrading to a Virtual or Dedicated Server.
