Choosing a Web Host - Page 2
Virtual and Dedicated Servers
If you have determined that your site needs more power and speed than a shared hosting plan can offer, you need to consider a virtual or dedicated server. Here is the breakdown:
Virtual Server
A virtual server is when a host partitions one physical server into multiple servers that each have the appearance and capabilities of running on it own dedicated machine. Virtual servers allow administrator level access, allowing starting and stopping of services and rebooting. Virtual servers are the gap between shared hosting and dedicated hosting and therefore are more expensive than shared hosting but less than a dedicated server.
Dedicated Server
A dedicated server places your web site on its own server that is not shared with anyone else. You typically have total control of the server, allowing you to configure it however you wish to. Some hosts will manage the hosting for you, meaning they will monitor the server and more actively assist you with issues that may arise. Dedicated servers are the most expensive option available other than purchasing the hardware yourself.
With these items in mind you should be able to find a host using the search tool and find a host and plan that is right for you.
